wolverine ecology in the northern rockies
Jeff Copeland

NRCC is partnering with the Yellowstone to Yukon Initiative, Glacier National Park, and the U.S. Forest Service Rocky Mountain Research Station to study the reproductive ecology and dispersal of wolverines in Glacier National Park.

With generous financial assistance from the Y2Y Science Grants program, this research promises to discover the movement and reproductive behavior of this unique forest carnivore. While petitions to list the wolverine as endangered under the Endangered Species Act have been submitted to the USFWS, there is currently not enough basic ecological information to determine whether their populations are threatened or not. This project promises to show how wolverine populations are interconnected and dependent, and documenting wolverine dispersal, den sites, and reproduction will help develop sound policies to conserve wolverine.
