We
conduct long- and short-term ecological
monitoring and research on threatened and endangered
species that are key indicators of ecosystem health. Our findings
are communicated to government agencies, non-governmental conservation
watchdog groups, and citizens.
We carry out independent
and cooperative analyses of environmental management
practices to help organizations improve how they plan programming,
carry out, and evaluate endangered species recovery.

| We
encourage improvements in decision-making
processes. By working with government
and private groups, we promote changes in how conservation and management
decisions are made, carried out, and evaluated, and we create forums
for public and expert involvement through workshops, conferences,
and publications.
We develop conservation
"prototypes," drawing on our experience
in the field and with existing policy and management programs. We
communicate and encourage implementation of conservation innovations
through in-house seminars, participation in ongoing governmental
and private programs, and scholarly publications.
We encourage
long-term learning. Through conferences,
workshops, and the design of school curricula, we equip students,
natural resource professionals, and citizens with
the knowledge and skills to solve complex environmental problems.
A "learning network," NRCC also offers masters and doctoral
students internships and research opportunities in a wide range
of natural and social science disciplines. |
